Influence-d: Protecting Mental Health in a Shifting Social Media Landscape
Reclaiming identity, self-worth, and agency online
In Influence-d, Jude draws on their lived experience working in the public eye and navigating life online to explore how social media can shape — and distort — our sense of self. The session examines the pressures of visibility, comparison culture, and constant evaluation in algorithm-driven spaces, and the impact these have on wellbeing and identity.
Speaking openly about their own relationship with social media, Jude introduces social media-contingent self-esteem — how confidence and self-worth can become tied to likes, followers, engagement, and external validation — supporting participants to recognise these patterns and build healthier, more grounded relationships online.
Jude was named a TikTok Trailblazer in 2023 and nominated for Voice for Change at the TikTok Awards in 2024. With a combined Instagram and TikTok following of 78,000, they have worked with brands including Virgin Atlantic, Harrods, Moss Bros, and Thomas Cook, and have consulted on community guidelines for TikTok. Alongside lived experience, the session explores the growing presence of misinformation and poralisation online, changing platform policies, and how content is shaped — often distorting public opinion and personal belief systems.
While addressing these challenges, Influence-d is firmly solution-focused. Jude highlights how social media can still be a powerful tool for learning, creativity, connection, community, and change-making when used with intention and awareness.
This talk explores:
• The realities of life online and the pressures of visibility, comparison, and performance.
• Social media-contingent self-esteem and the impact of validation loops on mental wellbeing.
• Algorithms, misinformation, and how digital platforms shape belief, behaviour, and public opinion.
• Protecting privacy, boundaries, and mental health in digital spaces.
• Reconnecting with identity, values, and self-worth beyond likes, followers, and engagement.
• Using social media with intention — for connection, creativity, and positive impact.
Understanding Wellbeing Through an Intersectional Lens
A reflective and empowering session exploring how identity, lived experience, and environment shape the way we understand belonging and resilience. Drawing on their own experiences as a trans, non-binary person, someone who is neurodivergent, and their journey through mental health recovery, Jude offers an honest and human perspective on the complexities that influence wellbeing.
They guide individuals and organisations to examine the elements that shape our internal worlds — from internalised beliefs and societal expectations to the pursuit of belonging and psychological safety — while also supporting people to better understand the experiences of others. This session brings together storytelling, evidence-based tools, and deep self-reflection to help people strengthen their inner resources, challenge limiting beliefs, and develop the awareness needed to support and show up for others with empathy and care.
This talk explores:
• How intersectionality shapes resilience, confidence, and connection.
• Recognising internalised pressures, expectations, and self-limiting beliefs.
• Building emotional resilience (rather than endurance) through awareness, connection, support, and allyship.
