Jude Guaitamacchi (b. 1987, Milan, Italy) is a British-Italian photographic artist based in Brighton, UK, working predominantly in black-and-white fine art photography.

They come from generations of Italian artists, many of whom trained at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan and established internationally recognised careers in fine and contemporary art. Their nonna, a ceramicist who studied at Camberwell School of Arts & Crafts, once told Jude, “Your art improves with age, not just because your technique develops, but because life experience allows you to take in more of the world.” Words that continue to shape their artistic practice. Having attended Liceo Artistico Umberto Boccioni in Milan, Jude initially planned to pursue a career in art, but life took a different direction. Creativity remained a constant thread, from television production and videography to storytelling and advocacy. Experiences of addiction, recovery, self-discovery and transition have shaped Jude’s artistic perspective. After years working in trans rights advocacy, they began transforming personal struggle into art, reconnecting with their creativity as another chapter in their journey towards authenticity.

Brighton in Between

What began with a fascination with Brighton’s iconic West Pier evolved into an exploration of overlooked beauty and hidden perspectives. Brighton in Between explores the lives, places and moments that exist beyond where most people think to look. Brighton is a place where people arrive carrying stories, searching for somewhere to belong. A city that exists not only in its landmarks, but in the spaces between them. In the people on the fringes of society, the overlooked corners, the hidden beauty, and the lives we so often walk past. This work is an invitation to look a little closer. To question the stories we tell ourselves about what we see, and to discover the beauty, the wonder, and the life that have been there all along.

Trans Empowerment Series

The Trans Empowerment Series is an ongoing body of work exploring trans existence through power, resilience, transformation, defiance, divinity and joy. Rather than depicting trans+ people through struggle alone, the series presents us as powerful, sacred and worthy of being immortalised through art. Captured in black-and-white photography, the subjects are presented with a statuesque, almost divine quality. The work looks beyond the narratives that dominate trans lives today, drawing on broader understandings of gender diversity throughout history and celebrating the extraordinary strength of becoming ourselves. Each portrait is developed with the person featured, allowing them to contribute to how they are represented. Importantly, this project is also about giving back. 50% of the proceeds from each artwork sold will go directly to the trans person featured, ensuring that the series supports the very people it celebrates. Each artwork is available as a limited edition of just 50 prints, individually signed and numbered. At a time when so many trans+ professionals are facing uncertainty, I hope this project encourages people to invest in trans creativity and directly support our community when that support is needed more than ever.
